The wet-zone system

Showers and tub surrounds need a continuous water-management assembly. Corners, niches, benches, curbs, and plumbing penetrations require special attention because small breaks in the system can allow moisture into framing and adjacent rooms.

Preparation before tile

Substrates must be flat, stable, clean, and appropriate for the selected membrane. Floors should be checked for movement and level. In a shower, the base must direct water toward the drain without low spots.
